Ten of my students here in Tampa Bay, Florida decided to forego late night movies, video games, hanging out at the beach with friends, and time away from school. On their spring break, these high school students decided to instead tutor math to underprivileged kids at Beekman House and Beyond Readiness in New York City. Through amazing corporate sponsorships and student sponsorships, my team and I were able to save their parents an expense they couldn't afford.

"they decided to forego late night movies, video games, and hanging out at the beach with friends"

Far from ever living privileged lives, most of my students grew up in houses of low socioeconomic status where many of their parents struggled to put food on the table from week to week. Yet, they still look forward to sharing their love of learning and passion for mathematics in the hopes that they can inspire students with similar backgrounds to strive for academic success despite all obstacles.

They are, indeed, true models of the adage that says the best way to learn new material is to teach it. However, they represent far more than that. Chosen for the strength of their character, these students exemplify dedication, leadership, and perseverance, which Mrs. Brown (chaperone/teacher) says is “just a testimony to who these students really are.”

"these kids are not privileged in any way"

The ultimate purpose of this mission trip, which we hope to do every year from now on…goes beyond algebra and arithmetic—it's an invaluable life lesson.

By inspiring our students to share their knowledge, we teachers hope that our students will be able to learn the true value of education, count the blessings in their own lives, and truly appreciate what it means to give back to the community.

Thank you to the staff of Channel 10 News for featuring my kids!

We are going on a MATH MISSION TRIP to NYC!

Meet some of our Marvelous Students!

“We are very passionate about showing EVERY student love and offering EVERY student an opportunity to display their gifts and talents.”

We have picked 10 incredible students to visit NYC for 5 days! We plan to visit America’s only Museum of Math and the Museum of Finance on Wall Street.

What makes this trip unique is that this is also a Math Mission Trip ✨  our own low income students will be helping NYC students, that are also economically challenged, with math tutoring!

Not only are they giving service to those in need, but our students will be able to immerse themselves in the culture and see the sights!  So hop on board and sponsor a high school student to immerse in the greatest math classroom, the World!

Note from Mrs. Cote:

I am begging anyone who will listen….please sponsor a High Schooler, they need some  ❤  too….but tend to be the ones forgotten   (all of these kids are on the Free/Reduced Lunch Program and several are foster kids). Two of the students have lost a parent. Because they are lacking in finances and a stable home, most have never had an opportunity to leave Florida.

When it comes to receiving help for High School teenagers…well “they are the Forgotten Children”

Thanks to our current sponsorships, and especially BookBag Tours.…we are GOING!!!

Here is how YOU can still help the kids:

Each student needs 8 sponsors! For $50 You will get photos from the trip and a personal letter from them!! (or fully sponsor a child for $400!)

You can pay via our gofundme page (although they take about 3% of it) or you can mail a check / money order (so kids get full amount of donation) directly to:
