“My only job is to feed her, give her shelter and clothe her”

Oh, how I wish I could just adopt so many of my students….if only you can hear these parents, mothers, fathers, say things like “oh, I can’t stand my daughter” or “I cant wait till she’s 18 [to move out]” or “she’s stupid like her father” or “this is why she’s not my favorite child”

or (my favorite) “My only job is to feed her, give her shelter and clothe her, its your job to teach her”.

Then, so called parent thinks they have my support and I will be tougher on their daughters or sons….but their comments and criticisms have the opposite effect…I become more loving towards my student, because as grown as they may look, a daughter or son needs love at all ages and, that lack of feeling loved by these mothers is what “created” who they are in my classroom.

Hats off to all Teachers and parents who do so much more “work” than their job descriptions.
