We as leaders DO NOT need to wait around for permission to educate our student's their history. Calling on leaders and future leaders....it's time to change the curriculum NOW. Posted @thelopezeffect 🗣 “To all of the leaders across NYC and all of the teachers, this is a time to be innovative, we do not have to wait for permission to educate our children on history and it does not need to just happen in schools that are predominantly Black or Latino, it needs to happen in everyone of our schools...stop waiting for permission to be disruptive and change the curriculum now.”⁣ ⁣ Somebody had to say it! We can’t talk about anti-racism work in one of the most segregated schools systems in the world when we are not changing the curriculum that excludes cultural relevance and lacks cultural sensitivity. It is unacceptable to rely on teaching history through the lens of textbooks or having young people read literature that has omitted the true history, including the atrocities against Blacks and Indigenous people in the United States. ⁣ ⁣ This is a historical moment and the perfect opportunity to bring about the much needed change in the content being taught across our schools. School leaders STOP waiting for the permission to teach facts, all you need is the audacity to get to it. ⁣ ⁣ We can’t be silent. This fight requires us to demand change not just in policing, but education, economics, health care and politics. ⁣ ⁣ Our children deserve a better tomorrow for a brighter future.
